Chapter 7

Two Months Ago

Heath’s Office

43 Ruthaven

Heath was bothered by the selection of strippers for Robyn’s bachelorette party. Not because they were bad at it -- to the contrary. That one wolf had a wicked smile, and he knew how to use it, and the wolf with the well-developed shoulder muscles and the shoulder-length blond hair, well, he had well-developed shoulder muscles and shoulder-length blond hair, and the rest of the strippers were just as appealing. But the fact of the matter was, Heath had been so very distracted that night by Brian, and he was just not sure his casting decisions had been as rigorously made as they should have been. After all, should the guy with the shoulder muscles really have gotten the spot only because he looked like the kind of hunky barbarian who wouldn’t mind carrying you off over his shoulder? Not that three wolf strippers and an additional two Fae would disappoint where effort or looks were concerned. But they have to be perfect.

Heath shifted the coffee cups and straightened the pen and notepad he’d laid out for Robyn on the desk in the window corner of his office. Brian had stuffed a vase with blue and white anemones, and looking at them made a smile fly over Heath’s face. How short the night was after we got back home from selecting strippers. Heath still had to return the blowjobs, plural now. It was on his list.

The elevator dinged, and Heath clamped down on his doubts about the strippers and his memories of Brian’s mouth on his cock.

Robyn knocked on his open door. “Heath?”

“Ready for you,” he said.

“You sound like a doctor who wants to give me an exam.” She grinned at him.

Heath grinned right back. “There might be a test later on. So ready to get into all the legal details of vampire and human unions?”

Robyn rolled her eyes and sat down. Heath poured her some coffee, then poured some for himself before he took the chair across from her.

“We don’t really have to go into all the details, do we? Can we maybe keep it general?” she said. “I was just finally getting around to putting the canopic jars in their own display case.”

Heath ran a hand through his hair. “You and your intestine jars. Did Maxim ever tell you they tried to make him President of New Amsterdam’s Forum on no less than three separate occasions, but he just wouldn’t do it? You could say he’s a bit of a public figure.”

Her mouth fell open. “He never said. I thought he was really just a hunter. I had no idea I was marrying into vamp politics.”

Heath sipped some of his coffee. “You aren’t really, because Maxim hates politics. But what he does still gets noticed, and people are going to notice you. Though probably no one will scrutinize you too much, since no one really wants to fuck with Maxim. There was this alpha a while back… A real douche, believe me. Maxim noticed, and stepped in on various occasions.
